Natural Light Portraits

Natural Light Portraits

Saturday 27 July
Colindale St, Middle River - 8:45am - 2 Hours
John Heredia
This meet-up will explore portraiture using only available natural light and backgrounds. Because this type of photography is about shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio, we will explore not only how to recognize flattering light but also how to control the light to suit our purposes. Technical learning points will including metering for skin tones, white balance, as well as intentional focusing strategies. On the less technical side we will have a dialogue about how to make a portrait have style and personality. Finally, we will incorporate posing and setting your subject at ease.

People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

Rodrigo Cely
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

    John Heredia
John has been an artist at heart since a very young age by demonstrating an ability to render and draw creatively. At around 11 years of age he received his first drum set. While working towards his Bachelor's of Fine Art specializing in painting at Auburn University, he took photography as an elective three times as at the time there was no photography major.

After receiving his BFA he moved to Atlanta starting to assist commercial photographers, shooting models, and playing in an original indie-rock band. After relocating to Florida, weddings would become his main focus for photography. Music has also been remained a big part of his life as he still continues to play in several bands and has taught drums lessons as well.

Every year we get to enjoy the spectacular firework show at Fullerton Park in Maryland. This year me, my sister, and two nephews came out to enjoy the show. I had just purchased a new camera and was looking forward to testing it out. I was amazed a some of the shots I was able to capture including this one. What I love about this shotis the shower of lights surrounding the large colorful burst. I can still hear the sizzling sound of the lights falling from the dark night sky. What an amazing cel

I walk around my garden and look for my garden creatures every morning. I saw this unusual creature on the side of a Pickerelweed flower in my pond. I took one photo. Then it moved to the top and stared at me. Then I took another one. After that I stopped taking photos and looked at the bug. All these small creatures are fascinating to me and I never get tired of photographing them. I used my Nikon D700, AF Micro Nikkor 60mm F2.8, Kenko Extension Tube and a vintage Nikon ring flash. F32.

It was nothing but grey skies and rain for days on end, but I decided that you don't always need epic sunsets for great photos. The dull weather also allowed me to get a 20 second exposure with an ND1000 filter giving that classic wispy water look. A wide angle lens allowed me to get nice and close and emphasize the subject, being that close also meant there was some close calls with the occasional freak wave coming up to where I had my tripod and me running back up the beach to escape them

There?s sunset and there?s sunset like this! As if Mother Nature decided that the colours were not enough and returned with these extraordinary after colours!I was a bit wavering that afternoon looking at those thick clouds building up but then a gap in those clouds made for a colour burst producing a sunset that has by far been one of the best in this year I have seen!
